Pultruded Cross Flow Cooling Towers

The Astech Hydro Systems AHS-80 series features pultruded FRP induced draft cross flow cooling towers. High performance and corrosion resistant, this range is the ideal large capacity cooling tower choice for unclean water applications. Along with strength, performance and efficiency, safety and visual appeal are assured thanks to the use of FRP pultruded sections and FRP sheets. Operation is based on the cross flow principle where a fan at the top of the tower pulls air across a V-splash bar above heated water which falls over layers of horizontal splash bars breaking down into small droplets to wet fill surface using PVC material. This series offers an efficient and reliable cooling solution for industrial and HVACR purposes.


FRP sections are used for structural components of the tower. They are resistant to saltwater, chemicals, and UV radiation. They are also resistant to bacteria and other microorganisms, making them ideal for use in many industrial applications. The towers are suitable for water polluted with high TSS (Total suspended Solids), which cannot be handled by film fill towers, as well as water with oil and grease concentrations of up to 500 ppm.

Casing is made from tough, corrugated FRP sheets, formed via hand lay-up process. These wall panels are lightweight and boast great architectural aesthetics. Furthermore, the roof deck features a non-skid texture, crafted to handle weights such as those of motor/gear box dollies or chain pulleys. GRP or SS grids support the V bars in cooling towers, with designs proving low pressure drop alongside a non-fouling and strong nature. The distribution system has a header with flow control valves and hot water is collected in the top basin. From there it flows onto the V bars using gravity, ensuring full water coverage even when flow rate is low. Easy installation/replacement can be offered by use of polypropylene spiral target nozzles with large free passages to the fill area. To reduce carryover from the cooling tower drift eliminators featuring PVC preformed sheets have been adopted. Furthermore, FRP flat sections acting as louver are placed at an angle so as to stop entry of debris/rain into basin while still stopping water from splashing out and thus saving money on treatments/chemicals.
